Death Comes to London A Kurland St Mary Mystery Catherine Lloyd 9780758287359 Books

This is a great series -- 3 books so far with the 4th due out in November. To my way of thinking, they are expensive so check to see if your library has them. I had to buy one that the library didn't have.

This is from the blurb -- When it's revealed she's been poisoned, Robert's former betrothed, Miss Chingford, is accused, and she in turn points a finger at Anna. -- I hate it when they pull stuff like this. The ONLY mention of this is one brief little time when they talk about who might have done it, but it is never serious. It is a good story with a good plot -- they don't have to do this sort of thing.

After her near death experience in the last book, Lucy has decided she needs some changes in her life. So, she and her sister Anna accompany Lucy's best friend, Sophia to London to have a season. Well -- it seems that Lucy attracts madness, mayhem and murder like a magnet. It is a good thing that she's also very good at solving them.

Sophia falls in love and gets engaged; Lucy gets tired of the sedentary, do-nothing lifestyle of London and is grateful she can go home. Major Robert Kurland is given a baronetsy by the regent -- and he blames Lucy for it (he doesn't like aristocrats).

There are 3 murders in this one and one villain who just has to be mad. Takes them a bit to figure how the murders happened and to figure out who did it -- some good detective work!

Good book.

Death Comes to London A Kurland St Mary Mystery Catherine Lloyd 9780758287359 Books Reviews

The mysteries aren't complex nor are the characters, but the Kurland St. Mary series is a pleasant read. Definitely rates behind the St. Cyr series by C.S. Harris and the Julian Kestrel series by Kate Ross, but ranks well ahead of lightweights like the Beau Brummell mysteries.
There is a considerable mistake in this plot when the author seems to forget a vital fact in the discovery of the first murder, but I still loved this book. The series can't go on forever with the tension between the 2 protagonists, but I hope it drags out for a few more books at least...!
Really liked this book. I started it but wasn't into it until I got the audible. Then it took off. The narrator was the key because she had the accent down & made me feel in that time period. I like it so much that I per-ordered the next book & audible. I Liked that a lot also. It's a different kind of book for me, refreshing & interesting. I was up all night reading the last half of the book. It's a very good book. But that's my opinion. Hope you'll try this & the next one 😃
The mystery is predictable, the dialogue is stiff and unnatural. The characters are dull. I should move on to a new author but I’m going to read book 3 because of an article on mysteries with romance I read from Goodreads.
I love Georgette Heyer, and cozy mysteries, but Georgette H is a hard act to follow, though in many ways, Catherine Lloyd has done well with her take on Regency London. I found the dialogue a bit stilted, and was irritated that the heroine was referred to as Miss Harrington throughout, rather than by her first name, but unfortunately I guessed who the murderer was much too early on. Still I think it's a good idea, and with some tightening, and some anachronisms removed from the dialogue, this promises to be a fun series.
I have read this whole series. I know it makes little period mistakes, but I enjoy it. The main characters are not perfect, and they struggle in their relationship. I kind of like that they take time to fall in love. Feels more true than the usual instant passion and hyper-sexual novels.
As promised in my review of Ms. Lloyd's first book (Death Comes To The Village) here is my review of her second book in the Kurland St. Mary series. In this book she moves many of her characters to London where they encounter the rich and fast-paced world of the ton and of "having a season" along with a murder or two or three. As she did with the first book, Ms. Lloyd has done a great amount of research and she incorporates it very naturally into the novel. Her characters continue to grow and the interactions among the main characters of this series as well as with the newly introduced characters of this book are wonderful to watch. This book, like the first, has captivated me from the first paragraph and my only regret is that the third book in the series isn't out yet! So I fervently hope that Ms. Lloyd is able to continue this series for many books to come and that the numbers of her fans continue to grow and grow. She can count on me to buy each new book, that's for sure!
