Chosen Mate, the second in the new mountain lion shifter series, continues the story mysteries while introducing the new romance of Phoebe and Jake. Thus the book works as a series read as well as reading well as a stand alone book. The reader is drawn into the characterization of the town, surrounding areas, and it's people making you feel a part of their community. In addition, Phoebe is a strong female lead (although not a shifter herself) which additionally draws the reader into the story. As one of the few shapeshifter lions (that are known to the Catamount Lions), Jake is a strong male alpha lead with the conflicted downside of an obsessive uber-controlling personality for all those in his inner circle of friends, always seeming to struggle with his need to control situations to keep those he loves safe and the reality of the world being that it is impossible to predict each and every potential danger. The characterization of their chemistry makes for the development of a heathy romance sprinkled with mystery and suspense.

Chosen Mate, like it's predecessor Protected Mate, will keep you captivated from cover to cover. I read this book in one setting as it kept my attention throughout the story. It has contains enough answers for you to enjoy this work as a stand alone story while leaving other questions open to be answered by future works in this series. Each book is a must read for romance, mystery, and suspense lovers - together they are a great start to a new series!

This is the story of Jake and Phoebe. Jake is the shifter and Phoebe is a non-shifter. Both of have feelings for each for years. Jake didn't want to act on his due to a bad relationship with a non-shifter. Phone doesn't want to ruin her friendship with Jake. This story picks up where Book 1 left off. They are still trying to figure out what Callen was doing. They are still lost and looking for clues. Shana has a a bigger part in this story. Phoebe is very protective of her friends.
This story is about Phoebe and Jake coming to terms with their feelings. Phoebe doesn't believe in his feelings and is worried about the friendship, even though everyone know that they both had feelings for each for years.
Dane and Jake are finally getting some answers but are still clueless.
The scenes between Jake and Phoebe are H.O.T., hot. Jake goes serious alpha male and oh my, was it hot.
My only downside is how abruptly the story ends and then goes right into the epilogue. I know that the story continues in the next one.
I am looking forward to see how the rest of the story goes.
Chosen Mate pretty much picks up the woven story thread where we left off at the ending of Protected Mate. The lion shifter community is still reeling from Callen death, and his apparent illegal activities. While each story has it’s own tale to tell, they all are tied in with the mystery thread dealt with a bit in each story. While you “could” read this as a stand alone story, you’ll get much more pleasure from the experience if you follow the series from the start as characters from the first story do show up later on as well.

Jake and Phoebe have been dancing around their feelings for each other for years. She may be human, but she has shifter relatives so what Jake is does not matter one bit – but she’s scared that her feelings aren’t returned and who wants to risk a great friendship is he doesn’t feel the same way about her. Jake feels that Phoebe is his mate, but one bad experience has him questioning his own judgement. They’re best friends and if he’s wrong about how he thinks she feels about him… well, he’s got a lot to lose. Yet passions cannot remain dormant forever and eventually Jake and Phoebe will take that chance on each other – and what an amazing, hot, tightly bonded couple they will become.

The mystery of Callen’s death and his activities continues bringing more danger to this community. Mistakes will be made. Reckless decisions soon regretted but the mystery deepens with lots of enjoyable action and twists.

I enjoyed my time in this world very much. Each book adds just a bit more to the adventure and I’m looking forward to reading the next in line, Fated Mate. I’m doing some serious catching up on series, but the time between reading the first story and the second hasn’t changed my enjoyment of this series at all, if possible it’s enticed me to read faster. I would definitely recommend this series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.

New author for me and a great series. I enjoyed all four books in this series and wish there were more.
Phoebe and Jake have avoided each other for years and this book really took them on a long and exciting journey. A must read and great writing!
