I have not read this play as yet, but it may be helpful to anyone thinking of trying this play to know that the author, John Burgoyne was one of the British military commanders who was credited by some Americans and blamed by many Brits for being one of "The Men Who Lost America" (as explained by Andrew Jackson O'Shaughnessy in his marvelous new book), when he failed to defend Fort Ticonderoga, leading to the loss of Saratoga for the British, a major turning point in the American Revolutionary War. Ever personally something of a dandy (but loved by his troops) and highly ambitious--until the loss of Saratoga ended his military career--in his retirement years he turned to "the theater", producing "The Heiress" and others.A compelling reason to give it a try...
